Meaning
" The illustrious and merciful son of Porkaariyaar, Nammalwar has extinguished by his graceful glance all my sins committed by me from beginning less time. I will. Therefore, gratefully publicize his mercy to all those who live in all the eight directions"

We tend to spend our life time in a state of mind where we always compare ourselves with others. Our happiness or sadness becomes a relative phenomenon. When we achieve  anything superior than others we become happy and satisfied, at the same time when we see others who have grown at a faster pace or those who have reached greater heights we immediately  become pale and this adds to our sadness.

How do we come out of this vicious circle of relative happiness and sadness. The only answer to the above question is Sathguru. He is the one who will make us realize the real happiness which is not depended on someone or something. Real happiness is within us. It is only that we need to dig it out. And Sathguru is the one who helps us in our quest for real happiness.

Sathguru is dishearten when He sees us lost in the material world. He feels sad for us because, He knows that we are striving to achieve only the illusionary happiness. When a  child plays with the mud and dirt, we as grown-up consider it to be untidy and put all efforts to make the child aware that its not a desired thing, Being a child he doesn't understand what harm the mud and dirt would cause.

Same way when we are engrossed in the material world we are unaware about the ill effects of it. The episode of Swami Ramanujar uplifting Pellaiurangavallidasar depicts the grace of a Sathguru in a beautiful manner. Prior to being a disciple to Swami Ramanujar, Pellaiurangavallidasar was a great fan of his wife's eyes. He used to admire her beauty day and night. Other things around him seemed to be less important to him. He was not hesitant to admit the fact that he adores the beauty of his wife's eyes.

Swami Ramanujar had decided to change the view of Pellaiurangavallidasar. He took Pellaiurangavallidasar to the Sriranga temple and showed him the ever captivating eyes of Lord Ranganath. Pellaiurangavallidasar got the darshan of those eyes which protects  this whole universe. After having a glimpse of beautiful eyes of Lord Ranganath, Pellaiurangavallidasar had forever declared that eyes of Lord Ranganath are the most beautiful ones, and there is nothing to be seen beyond it.

Such a realization was possible only due to the grace of Swami Ramanujar. Mahima of Sathguru is a saga which  never ends. We just need to pray that we are also recipient of such a grace. Even in the above verse Mudhaliandan acknowledges the fact that how Sathguru has removed all his sins and elevated him to a higher state. The virtue of such Sathguru is to be spread in all the directions.

Short stories to regain your faith

Thirikoolur Pennpillai doesn’t seem to stop her explanation. She goes on with her reasoning of leaving Thirikoolur. Each sentence she says is admired by Swami Ramanujar. As she finishes each sentence Swami Ramanujar blesses her with the kind of devotion done by the devotee mentioned in the sentence. The next sentence she says “Avan Sirien endruno azhwaar polle” (Did I ever say that the Supreme Lord is petite one”

Here in the above sentence, Thirikoolur Pennpillai refers the pasuram of Namazhwaar, where He, Quotes the Supreme Lord as a small person. It takes lot of bravery to call the Supreme Lord the ‘small one’. It is more difficult to do so when one has realized the real and strength of the Supreme Lord.

Namazhwaar is the foremost of all Azhwaar. He had spent his first sixteen years of his life on mediating upon the Bagwaan. The sixteen years of mediation was without any break. Namazhwaar’s devotion was of such high degree that Bagwaan from each Dhiyaa Desam (divine place) used to personally visit Namazhwaar and request him to write a pasuram about them.

It is only due the Bagwaan that this universe is functioning. He is omnipresent. He dwells in each and every soul and even inside the nonliving things. He knows the history of each our Janmas (birth). He is above all. He is beyond what we our sensory organs can recognize. His love is abundant. Words fall short in describing his virtues.

When a normal person reads the above description of the Supreme One, it would appear as  description of another super hero character. But truly realizing  those qualities of the Supreme One is different game altogether. Namazhwaar was one such who had experienced the Supreme One inch by inch. Such a person says that Supreme Lord Bagwaan is a 'small person' Here Namazhwaar refers to the innocence of Bagwaan. He forgets all the sins which we commit. He does not count the times we have forgotten him. He yearns for our love. Many a times we take Bagwaan for granted, but Bagwaan doesnt account for these things and take revenge on us.

The love of Namazhwaar for Bagwaan made him say that, Bagwaan is the small one, even though he is the greatest of all creations. Thirikoolur Pennpillai regrets about not being close to Bagwaan and for not calling him the "small one". Lets see next month, who Thirikoolur Pennpillai introduces as her example of great Bhakta.

The power of divine grace

Radhekrishna

I would like to share my divine experience of guru mahima with you.. like millions of other sishyas, i too was  very much moved by our Guruji’s kripai.. I was pursuing my PHd in USA.  I was towards my completion and found a job. I had my final exam scheduled and I need to complete this exam successfully and pass in order to join the job as the visa for the job requires degree completion..

I was very tensed about two things, one was my final exam ( as my 6 years of research depended on this final exam) and the other was my visa inter view. Our beloved Guruji gave me confidence by saying that the same Krishna who has been looking after you for all these janmas will take care of you now also! you need not worry about anything... just do your job and leave the rest to Krishna!  I was very much relived after this conversation... I surrendered all my anxieties before Guruji's lotus feet and left the outcome of my exam and visa interview to him. My exam went really well and i passed it with Guru kripai. My visa interview also went very smoothly (not many questions, straight forward) and i got the visa within 10 minutes... that is power of guru mahima...

I am learning to experience our Guru's kripai in every second of life at all incidents and this is one such situation. I owe all my lives (present, past and future)  to our Guruji Mahan Bhramma Shree Gopalavallidasar - it is no where near to what he has done for me.  I seek his blessings in every moment of my life to be his property as i am incapable of doing anything without his kripai.  Apaara Mahima Guru Mahima!!!!
