Many times we take life for granted and forget the destination towards which we are proceeding. Our aims and ambitions are like horizon, the moment we get near to one the other one is waiting for us. In a race to conquer the horizon we always put efforts and only at the end we  realized that its all been futile.

This realization should happen at an early stage so that we don't waste our life in achieving the non real things. This realization does not come the easy way. It is Sathguru who makes us understand the difference between the real and artificial, and shows us the path to attain the Supreme One.

Once the realization is hammered in our mind, then we develop the unconditional respect for the person who has made us realize the difference. Here is a small instance which elaborates the love and respect which a disciple had towards her Sathguru. Once it was cloudily night, and the climate was that of the fast approaching cyclone. In such a state of weather a Sathguru and his few disciple were crossing a river on a raft. Sathguru and his disciples were engrossed in Bajans and Namasankeetan. It was a calm journey filled with happiness and joy, until a huge wave raised and the raft began to raise loose its balance.

Every one got panic except the Sathguru. Its the quality of the true Mahatama. Maintain status-quo at all times. The raft rower instructed others that at-least one of them should jump off the raft to save the lives of others. Hearing this everyone got selfish and no one was ready to sacrifice their life for sake of others. This is the human nature, it is ones own life which is most beloved.

But there was a disciple who didn't care about her life and all she was worried was saving the life of her Sathguru. She jumped into the gushing water. To add her brave act, she didn't knew swimming so that she could at least make an attempt to come to the river banks. Others on the raft praised the brave act of the girl. The Sathguru however was worried about the well being of his disciple. After successfully crossing the river the Sathguru and his other disciples reached the banks of the river. To their surprise they found that the disciple who jumped into the gushing water was alive and safe standing there. She hurriedly came and took the blessings of her Sathguru.

She narrated her struggle and said that it was, Sathguru  who helped her cross the river. This is the power of Sathguru's mercy and the unconditional faith that a disciple can have on Sathguru. Such unconditional faith, comes naturally out of the love and affection show by the Sathguru.

We will pray to develop such an unconditional faith towards our Sathguru. Even the above verse says the same thing there is no Sathguru like Tukaram. These verse are sheer out of love and respect that a disciple had developed for Sant Tukaram

Short stories to regain your faith

Thirikoolur Pennpillai is continuing with her justification for leaving the sacred bhoomi of Thirikoolur. Now she put forth her eighth statement. She says “Mundra Yeyuthu Sonneno Shatrabandu vai polle” (Did I utter three letters like Shatrabandu)

Shratbandu was a Brahmin, but was entirely engrossed in committing sins.  Being fed up with Shratbandu, the villagers exiled him out of the village. Shratbandu went to a forest and continued his practice of indulging sinful acts. He used to rob people’s wealth, kill them etc. One day a Rishi came by that forest, the saw a pond nearby and thought quenching his thirst and taking a little rest after a long tired journey.  While trying to take out water from the pond, the rishi’s leg slipped and he fell into the pond. The pond was actually quick sand, and the rishi was not in a position to get out of it.

Meanwhile Shratbandu was passing by and saw the drowning Rishi and came forward to help. Till date Shratbandu had never helped anyone, but seeing the Rishi a sort of mercy bloomed in his heart. This is the power of Mahatamas, their power and tejas melts even the heart of the wicked. Shratbandu pulled the Rishi out of the quick sand thus rescued him.

Shratbandu  gave the rishi some fruits and nuts and took care of him. Seeing this rishi was very pleased and asked Shratbandu as to what he was doing in the forest. Shratbandu told the facts without hiding anything. Shratbandu was sincere enough in accepting whatever we did. This quality perhaps we lack, even before the God we fail to accept our faults and find ways to justify ourselves and the situations.

The rishi with love and mercy filled in the voice, asked Shratbandu as to why he was involved in such sinful acts and why he doesn’t put efforts to come out of it. Hearing this Shratbandu answered that the sinful acts are dissolved in his blood and its difficult for him get freed of those acts. The Rishi gave a solution for this and advised Shratbandu, “If you are not able to come out of this loop, you do one thing whenever you do a act utter the three letter word, ‘Govinda’.  It’s ok if you are not able to fully sacrifice your sin. Just go on chanting the name ‘Govinda’.”  Shratbandu tried to utter the word ‘Govinda’ but was unable to so. The sins he committed stopped him from doing so.

Even to utter holy names like “RadheKrishna”, “Ram”, “Govinda”, Shyam” we need the grace of the Mahtamas. The Nama of the Supreme is indeed Himself.  The Rishi with all the efforts was successful in making Shratbandu utter the three letter Sanskrit word “Govinda”.  Having taught  Shratbandu the “Govinda” , Nama rishi left the forest and was rest assured that the Nama would protect him.

Shratbandu always kept on chanting the “Govinda”, be it at the time of robbing people or killing them. At one point of time he got fed up of things he was doing. Shratbandu realized that he was committing sins and was guilty of his acts. But he was not able to fully give up his sins, but kept on chanting the Nama “Govinda”. As years passed by, Shratbandu breathed his last by uttering Govinda. In the next Janma (birth) Shratbandu was born as a Brahmin. Due to the Rishis’s grace, He remembered his previous birth and the saying of the Rishi. He chanted the Nama “Govinda” and attained moksha (liberation) in this birth.

Referring to this incidence Thirikoolur Pennpillai say s have she ever uttered the three letters “Govinda” like Shratbandu. Hearing this even Swami Ramanujar got astonished as to vast knowledge and devotion Thirikoolur Pennpillai had towards puranas. Wait till next month to see what other flavor Thirikoolur Pennpillai is going to present.

The power of divine grace

Radhekrishna

My Pranams to Guruji and Guruji Amma.

Once a person starts experiencing the Divine Nectar called Bhakthi, he starts realizing God in almost everything. All the good incidents are viewed as God’s gift and from the bad experiences, the person seems to receive a message from God. This “not-so-good” experience happened to me last week. Last week, I noticed that the tube lights in my house were flickering continuously on Wednesday. Sensing that the tube light was due for replacement, I did not take any action. The same thing was noted on Thursday and Friday. I thought it was better to switch off the tube lights and wait till Sunday for replacement. On Saturday, I thought of going for a morning walk. As usual, I climbed down the staircase and was about to exit from the main gate when something made me stop near the society electricity meters. I generally never stop to examine the electricity meters. On that day, I feel it was Krishna who made me stop and examine the meters. With alert ears, I could hear electric spark sounds coming from the meters. I was terrified for the moment not knowing what to do. I stood still and could actually see sparks coming out of MSEB cut outs. I started chanting and called up one of the elders in the building. We immediately called up the MSEB. But they didn’t seem to come immediately. The uncle told me to continue with my morning walk and that he would take care of the situation. I went, though a bit hesitatingly. I was chanting continuously, praying that nothing should happen.

When I came back, to my dismay, I still saw the sparks and the MSEB guys hadn’t come. I was about to call them for the second time, when they came with their tool kit. They repaired the fault in a few minutes and it was fine again. They told me that the sparks were the reason for flickering lights. Oh Krishna! The sparks were there for the past three days and nobody noticed it also!! Had it not been noticed timely, I can’t imagine the consequences. This incident has strengthened the fact Guruji is with His devotees always. He vouches for the safety and welfare of His devotees.
