GURUPADAPAYOBINDOHO SAHASRANSHENA TATFALAM

Whatever the merit is acquired from pilgrimages and bathing in the sacred water extending to the seven seas by one, cannot be equal to one-thousandth part of the merit derived from partaking the feet-washed water of the Guru.

This stanza explains about the significance of Guru’s feet. Here is an incidence from the life epic of Swami Ramanujar which brings out the importance of Guru’s feet. Once Swami Ramanujar, Vaduganambi (renowned disciple) and other disciples were crossing the Punya (holy) river Kaveri. Disciples were carrying the belongings of Swami Ramanujar. Vaduganambi was carrying Swami Ramanujar’s worshipping idol and His paduga (footwear).
Vaduga Nambi was carrying the worship idol on his head and above that he placed Swami Ramanujar’s footwear. (paduga). All other things as compared to the worship idol are of a lower status. When it comes to the footwear people fear even bringing it near the worshipping idol considering it to be an insult to the Supreme Lord.
A society in which such ideologies exist, Vaduga Nambi had placed the footwear above the idol and was crossing the river. Such a scene astonished people and they became irritated by Vaduga Nambi and asked for an explanation. Vaduga Nambi not fearing any one replied in a bold manner saying “For me my Guru’s footwear is greater than anything in the world, even above the idol worshipped by my Guru.”
Hearing this answer everyone was amazed to witness such Guru devotion. Lets all pray to get such devotion.

Short stories to regain grace

Thirikoolur Pennpillai continues her explanation for leaving the punya bhoomi of Thirikoolur. Again she takes an example from ‘Ramayana’. What a co-incidence, this month we will be celebrating “Ram Navami’- the birth festival of Bagwaan Shri Ram and also enjoy a small excerpt from Ramayana. Thirikoolur Pennpillai says ‘Andarangam sonneno Trijadai polle” (‘Did I console Sita Mata like Trijada’)
After abducting Sita Mata, Ravana had kept her in the ‘Ashoka Vana’ in Lanka. Ravana had appointed many female demons to safeguard Sita Mata. Trijada was one amongst those demons. Even though she was one amongst the demons she was in unique with regards to her character and virtue.
All other lady demon were frightening Sita Mata to marry Ravana. But Trijada was one who consoled Sita Mata saying that “Mata you need not worry. Ravana has a curse and he won’t be even able to touch you without your consent.” Such kind of comforting words from Trijada kept Sita Mata’s hope alive.
Trijada even tried to convince Ravana and others to send back Sita Mata to Lord Rama. Trijada used to warn the other lady demons when they tried to annoy Sita Mata.
There was no soul who would understand Sita Mata’s sorrows in the Ashoka Vana. Every one was trying to pressurize her to get married to Ravana. In such an environment Trijada’s few consoling words boosted Sita Mata’s confidence.
As the days were passing by Sita Mata’s hope was reducing and she had come to decision of destroying herself. At the same juncture Trijada had dreamt in which she saw the future destruction of Ravana and his followers and the triumph of Lord Rama. On conveying this dream to Sita Mata, a positive anticipation aroused in her. She changed her mind and decided to wait for Lord Rama.
Recollecting the incidences of Trijada, Thirikoolur Pennpillai wished that she would also have told such consoling words to Sita Mata. Great devotees like Thirikoolur Pennpillai take lessons even from the small incidences. Swami Ramanujar could not control himself hearing to the beautiful sentences of Thirikoolur Pennpillai but only bless her infinitely. Such should be our devotion. Next issue we will see what other example Thirikoolur Pennpillai gives to justify her act.

The power of divine grace

Radhekrishna! This month saw the devotees of RadheKrishna SathSangam celebrate Gudhi Padwa by chanting Radhekrishna..Krishnaradhe in the shobha yatra held in Dombivli.This is the first time that we had participated in the annual extravaganza.

It all happened in the space of two days before Gudhi Padwa.With the blessings of Guruji Amma & Guruji taking the requisite permission proved to be easier than expected. The authorities were only too happy to allow us participate in the yatra.The yatra had people participating from all over Maharashtra.We never expected such a huge turnout.As we walked past roads chanting RadheKrishna,people standing on both sides of the road welcomed us with showers of flowers.Lakhs of people including media personnel were present to witness this event.

Even all political parties without any differences had their stages erected on both sides of the road to provide the paticipants with food and drinks.We really felt happy when we walked as people greeted us with "We welcome the devotees of Radhekrishna Sathsangam and wish them a Happy New Year.It really felt heartening to see the might of Hinduism once again in the form of this yatra.Another speciality of this day that it was also the Ugadi New Year which is the new year for Lord Balaji.The next year will see us turn up in greater numbers and we welcome all of you to join us the next year in the shobha yatra and once again prove the power of Hinduism.
