Festivity
has become a mere media created hype. Marketing managers use
festivity to announce new offers, discounts etc. Advertisers use
it as a theme for their advertisements. Festival has become a
commercial commodity. The value of festival or of those
celebrating it is derived from the grand manner in which the
festival took place. Huger the idol of God and Goddess bigger is
the fame the organizers get. Festivals have just become
manifestation of wealth. Now it is Diwali time, everyone is busy
shopping for cloths, gifts, sweets etc. In this hustle and bustle
little do we realize the true meaning and intention behind
celebrating these festivals.
Festivity is an environment where everyone surrounding us is happy.
The happiness should be eternal one and not the happiness you get by
wearing new cloths or receiving/giving gifts etc. Once the festive
season is over, life is back to normal.
We
expect the brightness of festivals to last eternally but in vain.
Devotion, love for God, bhajans can bring back freshness into our
life. This may be conceived as paradox by many. Because according to
our definition spirituality, devotion, bhajans are outdated, dull
and boring. So how can these things bring fragrance into our lives?
The only answer could be practice and realize it yourself.
Here is a short story of aachyuta priyaa [The one loved by Bagawan
KRISHNA] and mahima of namasankeertanam.
There was a small town ruled by a king. The king was a self-proud
and self-centered person. One night he and his minister were walking
around the town incognito to see the real state of affairs of the
kingdom.
As they were walking they came across two beggars. One who was
begging for alms praising the name of Bagawan Krishna and singing
bhajans? And other one who was begging, praising the virtue of the
king
The king was very pleased with the beggar who was praising him. The
king said to minister "I am very happy with the beggar who is
singing my virtue and I will make him rich for this reason". The
minister replied "we as human being cannot change anyone. Everything
happens only according to the wishes of Bagawan Krishna".
This is a core fact we as a human beings are unfit. It is only
Bagawan Krishna who has power to do anything. Our duty is to
surrender to him and he as a caretaker will fulfill our needs.
The king was not able to digest the truth in minister's words. The
king being angry replied "You wait and watch how I make this beggar
a rich fellow".
The king with the intention of making that beggar a rich one
arranged for a feast where he invited all beggars for the feast. The
beggars, the one who was praising Bagawan Krishna and the one who
was praising the king had also come.
King had specially designed a pumpkin inside which he had put
precious stones, jewellery, gold, silver etc.... which would worth a
fortune.
After the feast got over, the king started distributing
presents/gifts to everyone. He gave the specially designed pumpkin
to the beggar with whom he was pleased. He gave the other beggar
5(five) rupees.
Few days later, the king and his minister were again walking around
the town in disguise. To their surprise they saw the beggar, who was
begging by chanting Bagawan Krishna's name, had become rich man and
was donating food to poor. And the beggar who was praising king
still was begging................
Keep on guessing till next month and keep on chanting to find what
really happened?..........
